A female suicide bomber killed at least three people and wounded 21 others when her device exploded near an Italian restaurant in central Moscow.
Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAK) said an unidentified woman carrying an improvised explosive device tried to enter the restaurant but was stopped by a security guard. The explosion that followed killed the woman, the guard, and a customer of the Balzi Rossi restaurant instantly, according to NAK.
The blast occurred just before 20:00 local time near a restaurant in one of seven Stalin-era skyscrapers at Kudrinskaya Square, police said.
REN TV, citing a source, reported that two people hospitalised after the attack later died from their wounds, raising the death toll to five. That figure had not been officially confirmed. The broadcaster also reported that six people remained in critical condition.
