Railway company European Sleeper plans to launch a direct night train service connecting Brussels and Amsterdam with Copenhagen and Malmo in April 2028.
The news outlet Euronews reported that the Belgian-Dutch rail operator has reached an agreement with German railway company RDC to launch the service. The new overnight train will provide a direct connection between the Benelux region, Denmark, and southern Sweden.
The route between Brussels and Malmo represents the first expansion of European Sleeper into Northern Europe. The service will make cities across Western and Northern Europe more accessible to international travelers. Passengers will be able to travel to Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, and Malmo, Sweden's third-largest city, without changing trains. Destinations such as London, Paris, Stockholm, and Oslo will be accessible with just one additional transfer.
Train timetable and compartment options
Under preliminary operational plans, trains will depart from both Brussels and Malmo at around 7:00 pm local time. The services will arrive at their final destinations at approximately 10:00 am the following morning. This schedule allows travelers to spend a major portion of the journey sleeping rather than spending an entire daytime traveling.
Passengers will be offered several seating and sleeping options onboard. The operators plan to use carriages from both European Sleeper and RDC, featuring comfortable seats, couchettes, and shared sleeping compartments.
The companies are also evaluating the introduction of upgraded Deluxe category accommodation. These premium sleeping quarters could potentially feature double beds and private ensuite bathrooms.
European Sleeper expands international network
The Scandinavian connection is one of several international route expansions planned by European Sleeper. On September 9, 2026, the company is scheduled to launch its inaugural night train between Brussels and Milan. That route will link the Benelux countries with Switzerland and northern Italy.
European Sleeper is also continuing preparations for a direct service between Brussels and Barcelona, which is likewise scheduled to open in 2028.
In other European transport updates, Chisinau International Airport in Moldova has introduced a pilot project offering free shuttle transfers for rail passengers. The service is aimed at travelers arriving by train from Ukraine who use Chisinau as a transit hub before flying abroad, cutting time lost in city traffic and improving rail-to-air connections.
