ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA director teases Kang as a bigger threat than Thanos

In the trailer of Ant-Man and the Wasp: QuntumaniaKang the Conqueror (Jonathan Major) tells Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), “You’re out of your league, Ant-Man.” Kang is the new big bad in the MCU, and that will lead to the big Marvel event movie, Avengers: Kang Dynasty.

This isn’t the first hardcore villain Ant-Man has faced as he helped take on Thanos, but according to director Peyton Reed, Kang is an even bigger threat than Thanos in the MCU, which is insane to think as the Mad Titan has wielded the Infinity Gauntlet and snatched away half of all life in the universe.

It will be interesting to see who ups the ante with this new villain. Speaking about the film and Kang, Reed said during an appearance at CCXP 2022 in Brazil:

“We’re starting Phase 5 in a big, big way. This is the greatest adventure Ant-Man and the Wasp have ever been on. We’re going to go to strange places and meet an antagonist who is unlike anything they’ve ever seen—and that includes Thanos.”

The multiversal variant of Kang, the Remainder, the creator of the Authority for Time Variation, a timekeeper, and a master planner warned of a multiversal war threatening the annihilation of countless universes across the multiverse. Reed went on to explain:

“I think the One Who Remains in Loki is very different from Kang the Conqueror in our film. They are Variants, but they are extremely different people. Kang is someone who has dominion over time, but retains his energy. He is a very, very character scary to deal with, like [Ant-Man and Wasp] find out for yourself.”

Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige continued on the Ant-Man franchise:

“Ant-Man has concluded Phase 2. And now, [Ant-Man is] kicking off Phase 5 in such a big way, just like Scott Lang himself going from this petty criminal to saving the world in Endgame. I love that the Ant-Man franchise is now at the peak of the MCU and kicking off Phase 5.”

In the film, “superhero partners Scott Lang (Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangelina Lilli) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents, Hank Pym (Michele Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michael Pfeiffer), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures, and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought was possible.

Kathryn Newton will also take on the role of Cassie Lang, e Bill Murray it’s in the movie! Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania will hit the big screen on February 17, 2023.
