Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania looks like it’s going to be a fun Marvel movie. I actually liked the Ant man movie, and this will take fans on a crazy adventure in the Quantum Realm. It will also see Ant-Man come face-to-face with Kang the Conqueror.

In the trailer of the film, after Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and his family are sucked into the Quantum Realm, Kang (Jonathan Major) tells Lang, “I can take you home and give you more time…if you help me.” The question is, what help does Kang need from Lang?

Well, according to director Payton Reed, Kang is trapped in the Quantum Realm and wanted Ant-Man to help him escape. In a recent interview with Empire, Reed shared:

“We wanted to explore the Quantum Realm. It’s a huge, massive world-building undertaking. It owes in equal measure to electron microscope photography, the Heavy Metal magazines of the 70s and 80s, many of my science fiction book covers favorite artists, and there’s a little bit of Mœbius in there. Fantastic realism is the mood.”

As for Kang the Conqueror, this version of the character is “very different” from He Who Remains Loki. Reed offered a description of this character saying, “He’s someone who has dominion over time, and he’s a warrior and a strategist.”

He went on to explain what aspect of this next story interests him: “This is interesting to me: Taking the smallest Avenger, and in some people’s minds the weakest, and pitting him against this sheer force of nature.”

The director went on to talk about the profound impact Kang will have on the MCU: “I think he has a profound impact on the MCU. Jeff Loveness, who wrote [Quantumania], The Kang Dynasty is also writing, so there’s been a lot of discussion about the impact this Kang the Conqueror appearance will have. There are great things in store.”

Those big things will all end with Avengers: Kang Dynasty movie.

The film officially kicks off Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and in it “superheroes partners Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne (Evangelina Lilli) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents, Hank Pym (Michele Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michael Pfeiffer), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures, and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought was possible.

Kathryn Newton stars in the film as Cassie Lang, and Bill Murray he also joins the Marvel party.

Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania will be released in theaters on February 17, 2023.
