The 1999 action movie The Mummy – and its subsequent sequels – have become classics and favorites for a couple of generations of fans. They’re movies that still hold up for families and adventure seekers, but before the success of the first film, the stars weren’t sure how the film would fare.
In a recent video interview with GQ, star of the franchise Brendan Fraser he recalled his trepidation that the film would do well. He and co-star Rachel Weisz both were unsure of the film they were making:
“When the film was coming out we had no idea what it was going to be. Is it comedy? Is it an action movie? Is it an adventure, a love story, all of it, none of it? I can still hear Rachel saying, “Oh no, they’re going to confiscate our equity papers.” What does that even mean? We were wrong? Have we chewed the scenery too much? I know I did.
I think movies that hit a lot of different categories actually do really well. I remember an interview with The princess bride director Rob Reiner, who said he was having trouble marketing his film because it fell into many categories, similar to The Mummybut that film too was successful far beyond its time.
Just a month ago, we reported that Fraser said he would be open to returning to the role of Rick O’Connell The mummy 4even after suffering numerous injuries in the early films.
Would you like to see a fourth Mummy movie with the returning cast? I think it could be a lot of fun.
