The Dusk books and movies were a huge phenomenon in pop culture. The four novels followed the human adolescent Bella and her love interest in her, the vampire Edward. There was a whole love triangle with a werewolf named Jacob, and a lot of big wars between vampire covenants and their enemies. The novels were close to Harry Potter status with the midnight releases, and once the films were picked, they sold out, created fan crowds, and launched the stars who played the roles to stardom.
During the casting, the author of the books, Stephanie Meyer, she was often asked who she would like to see in the roles. Although she did not have the last word, as she had signed the rights to the firm, she expressed it Henry Cavill was who he portrayed in the role of Edward.
When it goes around promoting the Netflix sequel Enola Holmes 2Cavill sat down with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, and was asked if he was disappointed not to get the role in Dusk movie. He said:
“Not at all because I didn’t know about the movie. I didn’t know they wanted me to choose and the Internet wasn’t quite the tool it is now and so I only discovered it later. I was like, ‘Oh ok, that would have been cool.'”
We all know the role he went to Robert Pattinsonwho is now also a prominent man in the DCEU, like Cavill, who then added:
“Essentially, I’ve gotten close to a lot of things and haven’t figured it out, but it’s funny that people think it’s a bad thing. In Hollywood – or in the acting industry – everyone’s trying to get a role and they’re not. necessarily get them. And therefore, having the opportunity to be in the spotlight by losing important roles is actually a good thing rather than a bad thing. And I count my lucky stars for every one of those. “
Whatever he didn’t achieve doesn’t really matter at this point, considering Cavill’s career turned out to be pretty great. But I bet he would have been a good Edward Cullen too.
