The shocking news was announced last week Henry Cavill was exiting Netflix The sorcerer series and will not appear in season 4. The role of Geralt of Rivia will now be filled by Liam Hemsworth, and fans hated all of it. Cavill was fantastic in this role and, without him being involved, there now seems to be a huge lack of interest in returning to watching the series after the upcoming third season.
No details were given as to why Cavill left the fantasy series, so most people assumed he was gone to focus on Superman’s role again. Man of Steel 2 and other projects such as the Guy Richie movie The ministry of war without gentlemen. But, according to a new report from Redanian Intelligence, Cavill was considering leaving the show after season two due to disagreements with producers regarding the show’s content and Geralt’s role. Cavill expressed his frustrations about it during the press tour for the second season. Here is a shared example of what Cavill was saying:
“The hardest part for me was finding that balance between the showrunner vision and my love of books, and trying to bring that Geralt to the showrunner vision. It’s about walking a fine line. It’s the story of the books. showrunner and so it’s an adaptation. The hard part for me was finding Geralt from the place of the books within that and being able to serve both of them as much as possible. The things I pushed for, weren’t necessarily just more dialogue. He was bringing more faithful Geralt to the book on the screen. […] All my requests and requests were along the lines of simply being faithful to the source material. “
Yes, you can definitely see Cavill’s frustrations put on display here. It’s a shame that his view of his story was at odds with the showrunner’s view. Now those creative differences will cost him because Cavill left the show and I doubt he will survive without him.
I’m not sure why showrunners are so averse to sticking to the source material to move forward, but Cavill has consistently pushed for it for the series. If this report is true, it looks like Cavill has just finished clashing with the creative team. It’s a shame.
