Independent distributor Kino Lorber has hired Kate Patterson as the new Director of Press and Advertising. She joins Metrograph, where she led advertising and communication.
Patterson will lead a multifaceted public relations effort to support Kino Lorber’s continued growth in the digital space and campaign for its more than 25 annual theatrical releases. She reports along with Wendy Liddell, senior vice president of acquisition and theatrical distribution, and Nicholas Kemp, who was recently promoted to vice president of marketing and communications. She will work directly with Richard Lorber, President and CEO, on special projects.
Prior to Metrograph, Patterson worked as a film publicist at Lincoln Center, where he facilitated repertoire programming and provided the organization’s corporate press, including public efforts around cinema at Lincoln Center’s rebranding. He has managed to advertise the New York Film Festival, new directors / new films and FLC events throughout the year.
Previously, he worked for the Advertising Agency Marketing Brigade and held positions at Cinedigm and Fork Films. In addition to advertising, he was an associate producer on the documentary This time next year and documentary-fiction Feast of the Epiphany.
Kino Lorber distributes up to 30 films a year in theaters with its posters of Kino Lorber, Kino Repertory and Alive Mind Cinema. It brings more than 350 titles to the home entertainment and education markets annually and operates support media such as Zeitgeist Films, Milestone Films, Cohen Media Group, Greenwich Entertainment, Artsploitation, Palisades Tartan, Menemsha Films and Raro Video, including wholesalers, resellers and customers and direct digital distribution with over 40 OTT services.
In 2019, the company launched the Kino Now digital authors channel, which contains over 1,300 titles from its library. In 2021 he launched Kino Cult, the AVOD channel for new and rare genre films. It has over 400 title libraries and seven Oscar nominations.
During a tough time for arthouse theaters struggling to win back their old audiences, a pioneering New York City film critic awarded Cinema Lorber a special award for “Virtual Arthouse Movie Releases,” with a portion of the proceeds allowing to the spectators. Supporting nearly 500 local independent theaters.
