On September 21, Netflix premiered the “Dahmer” miniseries, a drama based on the chilling true story of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, nicknamed the Cannibal of Milwaukee. The production shows the crimes committed by the American killer between 1978 and 1991, including his arrest in prison and the trial that revealed his crimes. The platform included this series in its LGBTQ + category, which caused the reaction of fans, who did not understand the label and criticized Netflix on social networks.
‘Dahmer’ shows us the terrible murders of the criminal, who killed a total of 17 men, including adults and children. Most of his victims were homosexuals and people of color. Netflix decided to label it as an LGBTQ + themed series, a classification it had to remove recently due to outrage from the fandom.
On Twitter, one user said the following: “If I have to take care of my own business, let me know, but does anyone else think it’s pretty disgusting that Netflix includes Dahmer in LGBTQ, especially when the True Crimes tag would work?”
If I have to stay in my lane absolutely tell me, but someone else thinks it’s pretty disgusting @Netflix to list Dahmer below #LGBTQespecially when the True Crime tag would work? pic.twitter.com/wPzwc2oOKP

Twitter was soon filled with negative comments about Netflix, and the platform had to remove the label. In Spain, it currently doesn’t even include the LGBTQ + category in its keyword list. But it is not the first time that the series has been criticized on social networks, since it had already been commented that ‘Dahmer’ does not show sensitivity towards the victims and their families. In fact, a relative of one of the victims claimed to have done so “retraumatized” with the first of production.
Based on real events
‘Dahmer’ tells the story of criminal Jeffrey Dahmer, who was imprisoned in 1992 and murdered while in prison. Evan Peters brings this character to life in the series created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. The first season is already available on Netflix and consists of 10 episodes whose duration varies between 50 minutes and 1 hour.
