MYTH WARS: BATTLE FOR MIDIA is a new beginner-optimized war game experience available now on Kickstarter

The war game is a hobby that tends to have a high entry cost. You have to buy a bunch of figures, then you have to assemble and paint them, and then you have to have people to play with. Don’t get me wrong, it looks like it might be fun. However, it cannot be denied that the initial investment is quite high and that games often take several hours. Good, Tyler Breinholt and his wife from Blitz Gaming decided to make it a little easier to get into the board game genre of war games with a new game called Myth Wars: Battle for Midia. The game has just launched its Kickstarter and you can try it now.

In Breinholt’s own words, “There are a lot of people interested in war games, but it’s just too big a gap due to cost, complexity and time, so we’ve removed these issues with [Myth Wars]. ” You can get a 4 player box for just $ 49, and if you buy two of these boxes ($ 94), you can have up to 8 people playing a game. This is already the real deal. If you order within the first 48 hours, you can save $ 5 per box. Plus, if you want to step up your game, you can get two boxes and an exclusive neoprene mat for $ 115 ($ 99 during the first 48 hours). All of these also include all related stretch goals.

Breinholt was kind enough to send me a copy of the game to check out and invited me to play him on Tabletop simulator. I am happy to report that our 1v1 game lasted about 1 hour and this included his explanation of the rules. If this isn’t a leaner war game experience, I don’t know what it is. I really appreciated how fast everything was (aided by the fact that players alternate simultaneously) and how simple it was. Each player controls an army (there are recommended armies for the first time you play), you use a ruler to measure your movement and attack range, roll the dice to determine hits and damage, and there’s a ground to consider. If you’ve ever thought about trying a war game, I highly recommend this one. I would also recommend it if you enjoy playing war games and want to play something like this with friends and family who aren’t as busy as you are.

There is more that I like Mythological Wars though. The art is fantastic and although you have duplicate creatures in your army, each token has a different color which makes it easy to tell one token from another. Also, there is some complexity, but the rules start out simple and then with each game in the first few you add a new level of complexity. This was very well thought out in my opinion.
