HBO renews HOUSE OF THE DRAGON for season 2

HBO has renewed its game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon for season 2. We are only at one episode of the first season, but the cable network is obviously very happy with the result.

House of the Dragon premiered Sunday, August 21 to the largest audience of any new original series in HBO history. The first episode has now been watched by over 20 million viewers on Linear, On Demand and HBO Max platforms in the United States. The information is based on a combination of Nielsen and proprietary data.

I wasn’t very impressed with the first episode of House of the Dragon. I thought the narrative was weak and that they were trying too hard to cram too much game of Thrones inside. Also, for me, there isn’t a nice character to cheer for like there was game of Thrones. It’s just me, though! I hope it gets better! If you liked it … great!

Francesca Orsi, EVP, HBO Programming, said, “We are extremely proud of what the entire House of the Dragon team has accomplished with Season 1. Our phenomenal cast and crew have faced a huge challenge and overcome. all expectations, delivering a show that has already established itself as a must-see TV. A huge thank you to George, Ryan and Miguel for guiding us on this journey. We couldn’t be more excited to continue bringing the epic House saga to life. Targaryen with the second season.

The series is based on Giorgio RR Martin’S Fire & Blood series, set 300 years before the events of game of Thrones and tells the story of House Targaryen. Here is the synopsis:

Centuries before the events of Game of Thrones, House Targaryen, the only family of dragon lords to survive the Fate of Valyria, settled on Dragonstone. Fire & Blood begins their story with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to tell the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, until the civil war that nearly destroyed their dynasty.

What really happened during the Dance of the Dragons? Why was it so deadly to visit Valyria after Destiny? What were the worst crimes of Maegor the Cruel? What was it like in Westeros when dragons ruled the skies? These are just some of the questions answered in this essential chronicle, told by a learned Citadel master and with over eighty brand new black and white illustrations by artist Doug Wheatley. Readers have glimpsed small portions of this narrative in volumes such as The World of Ice and Fire, but now, for the first time, the entire tapestry of Targaryen’s story is revealed.

House of the Dragon stars Paddy Considine like King Viserys Targaryen, Matt Smith like Prince Daemon Targaryen, Rhys Ifans like Otto Hightower, Emma D’Arcy like Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Olivia Cooke like Alicent Hightower, Steve Toussaint like Lord Corlys Velaryon, Best Eva like Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, Sonoya Mizuno like Misaria, Fabien Frankel like Ser Criston Cole and more.

The series is co-created by Martin and Ryan Condalwho serves as a co-showrunner with Miguel Sapochnik, which he also directs. Martin, Condal, Sapochnik are executive producers with Sara Hess, Jocelyn Diaz, Vince Gerardis and Ron Schmidt.

What do you think of the first episode of House of the Dragonand are you happy to know that a second season is coming?
