Dungeons & Dragons recently made some big announcements at the first Wizards Presents virtual event. D&D 5E has been around for many years. During Wizards Presents, the D&D shared the next level of the currently called game A D&D.
Playtest for A D&D is now available by going to the official site and downloading the playtest pack full of materials so you can try it out. Much of what I have seen in the pack is that they are bringing the updated rules such as how races are handled during character creation in 5th Edition which makes sense since they are currently saying this A D&D will allow the use of any 5E supplements, adventures, etc.
It sounds a lot more like a 5.5E even though they seem to forgo the term “edition” for their next project. A D&D it appears to be more than a new set of rules or updated rules. It is also about improving the gaming experience.
The ability to purchase packages with physical and digital copies of the books has been mentioned, which many have asked for, and the recent acquisition of D&D Beyond makes them much easier. With that, the team is also working to enrich the digital space with a 3D virtual tabletop system using the Unreal Engine.
This all sounds surprising, but it raises the question of cost. How much will it cost to use these tools? Regardless, if you go to D&D Beyond, you can sign up to participate in public playtests and try it out for yourself.
A D&D it wasn’t the only announcement made for D&D. The team has outlined a fair number of projects that will be released over the course of the next year. Fans will be able to go to war with the release of Dragonlance: The shadow of the dragon queen coming December 6th. There will also be a Deluxe Edition which contains the new The shadow of the dragon queen adventure, an exclusive Dungeon Master screen and board game Dragonlance: Warriors of Krynn to really get you into the War of the Lance. Shadow of the Dragon Queen also marks the first time D&D will offer the aforementioned physical and digital content packages through D&D Beyond. If you book from D&D now, you can also get access as early as November 22! The package starts at $ 59.94.
Additionally, the team celebrates Drizzt’s 35th anniversary with new covers for RA Salvatore’S Legend of Drizzt novels. There will also be a Legend of Drizzt Visual Dictionary full of lore, creatures, weapons, enemies and allies, as well as a Drizzt Family webcomic starring Drizzt’s twin daughter, Brie, as she “borrows” her father’s sword Twinkle to prove she is a heroic force just like the his ancestors “.
