James Gunn reveals that the key scene in Superman was almost much darker

Superman It was a film about hope. It was the human experience and the navigation of life in super circumstances.

Director James Gunn Put his distinctive style in the film, bringing us humor and heart, and even a rather dark scene to portray the level of the evil Clark had to do in his Nemesis, Lex Luthor. But apparently, the scene was almost dark. {Spoiler in front, if you have not seen the movie.}

The scene takes place in the pocket universe created by the evil Luthor, in the prison that is maintaining all those who have never wrong it. He puts the superhero captured in a cell with Metamorpho, who aims to evoke Kryptonite to break down Superman if he does not reveal the answers to Luthor’s questions.

Lex then brings Malik Ali, a Falafel seller who appears first in the film when he helps Superman during a Kaiju attack in Metropolis, who uses as a stratagem to convince Superman to speak.

Luthor ends up shooting in Malik, who is shocking and sad, but Gunn revealed that on his original plan, the scene then took a dark turning point.

In a recent interview on the Podcast Happy Sad confused, Gunn said he had mitigated the consequences of Malik’s death, which leaves an anguished Superman to moan after seeing Luthor shooting the civil friendly in his head.

“There is a really dark thing in there. There was a really dark thing. Once I saw the movie, I’m like ‘this is [too dark]. “So Lex shoots the boy on his head, who has always been made in this extreme wide [shot] So it’s not too graphic. But the boy has fallen to the ground and the blood is pouring on the platform, and Lex looks down and sees that the blood is about to put it on the shoes. “

At that point, Luthor would have had Ghurkos on the ground to absorb Malik’s blood from filtering in his shoes.

“Ghurkos says:” What? No! “And Nic looks at him and his delivery is fantastic, because he looks at him straight and [says]’NO?’ And then Ghurkos, sadly embarrassed, approaches and lie down on his back. AND [Burić]It’s so funny. He lying on his back and starts absorbing the blood. Then Nic looks at Superman and says: “See you tomorrow”.

Gunn noticed that the scene was shot but was “cut quite soon”, adding, “I don’t think it has ever been in a test projection”. Before the release of the film, Gunn revealed it Drew Goddardwriter of Marvel’s Daredevil and the films The Martian, The cabin in the woodsAND Hail Mary projectHe advised him to cut the scene.

Gunn said to Collider:

“Drew Goddard was really useful. I think there were a couple of small things in the movie, three or four things that we really discussed in the film, and everyone had to do with things that were a little darkest or a little lighter. Discussing on one of them, Drew Goddard was like, ‘you know what? It is not exactly that film. It is not that film. And I thought:” He’s right. And so that line he said blocked with me for the rest of the assembly. “
