Fans of classical science fiction have something great to look at the future. A new animated series based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ legendary John Carter of Mars The novels are officially being developed.
The project was led by the author’s estate in collaboration with Showrunner Michael KoggeAnd the first preview will be revealed this Friday during a Burroughs themed panel at the San Diego Comic-Con.
Burroughs introduced readers to John Carter for the first time in 1912 with serialized history Under the moons of Marssubsequently published as the novel A princess of Mars. The veteran of the civil war John Carter follows who is mysteriously found on Mars, known to its inhabitants as Barsoom, where he becomes warrior and fights epic battles against alien species and monstrous beasts.
These stories have been fun for pulp entertainment only, but they also contributed to modeling modern science fiction. Together with Flash GordonThe stories of Burroughs influenced artists of the caliber of Star Wars Creator George Lucas AND Avatar director James Cameron.
The franchise saw a high-profile live-action adaptation in 2012 with Disney John Carterdirected by Andrew StantonBut the film became infamous for his bankruptcy at the box office despite his huge budget and ambitious sphere. I actually liked the movie!
Decades earlier, there were even attempts to bring history to animation. Son of Burroughs, John Coleman Burroughsonce collaborated with Looney Tones animator Bob Clampatt To launch MGM on a series of animated shorts, but the idea was rejected.
Now, over a century after his creation, John Carter of Mars He is finally receiving the animated treatment he deserves and, according to Kogge, the times could not be better.
“In this era of incredible animation, with shows such as Castlevania, Blood of Zeus AND Twilight of the Gods Pushing the genre of fantasy action adventure to new heights, there could be no better time for John Carter’s Martian saga and Princess Dejah Thoris to tell through bold and innovative animation, “he said in a note.
Kogge recently adapted the novels in an audio series with Sean Patrick Flanny, Bruce BoxleitnerAND Star Wars legend Ian Mcdiarmid. Will be combined with the animated series by Jim Sullos AND Wolf Larsonrepresenting Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc.
Sullos also expressed his excitement in giving life to this iconic story in animated form:
“The explosive animation of ascent-adventure ascent has fascinated the public all over the world, making it the perfect moment to launch our series animated by John Carter. This marks a new era in the narration for the Edgar Rice Burroughs universe and we are excited that Michael Kogge will help to give life to Mars.”
With the success of adult -oriented animated successes and a renewed interest in Burroughs’ work, this series could finally give John Carter the epic screenplay that fans were waiting for.
Wait for more details and, hopefully, some extraordinary images, to the comic-con this Friday.
