James Gunn he has not finished talking about the Superman. During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the director opened on his plans for the future of the DC universe, making fun of a sequel “a little but not much-reality”, the potential return of Ultraman and the meaning behind that mysterious mural of the Hall of Justice.
While Superman It was an autonomous story without an evident setup sequel, Gunn has confirmed that he is already working on a follow-up. However, fans should not expect a traditional sequel. When he was asked of what he called a “semi-, non-executive sequel”, he simply said Gunn:
“I mean, Superman follows. What will I say? I don’t know what to say.”
He continued to add:
“I think people like Superman because he is unexpected in some respects, and I think what we do after will be unexpected. I follow him. I listen to, I know, I notice that people love Mr. Terrific and love Krypto?
One of the most exciting possibilities that Gunn has mentioned is the return of Ultraman, a twisted version of Superman from an alternative reality. Even if he has not confirmed anything, his comments suggest that fans could see this villain in the near future.
Gunn also turned to the mural of the Hall of Justice who had fans who speculated on the future of the DCU. The work of art presents several iconic and dark characters and, according to Gunn, it was not just a background decoration:
“Oh, there was a lot of thought put inside. A lot of thought.”
When asked if we will see these characters in the DCU at some point, Gunn:
“Do not necessarily see them in particular. But yes, some of them that we already have in the works in different things in different ways.”
The characters identified in the mural include Jay Garrick, Wildcat, Super-Cuf, Shining Knight, Silent Knight, Gunfire, Atomic Knight, Vibe, Dr. Fate, Freedom Beast, Black Pirate, Alan Scott, Dolphin and Amethyst.
When asked about the possibility of introducing the 31st century team, Gunn admitted that he passed through his head but it is not something anxious to face:
“I thought about it. I am not a person for time travel. I like science fiction, but the journey through time is difficult for me. I don’t like it. I don’t really like teleportation [either]. I have strange things they don’t do for me.
“Now, you can say that the Pocket Universe is the remote -star, but I don’t consider it like this. I consider it to travel from one point in dimensional space to the other instead of teleportation, which I think how the person who died and is recreated.”
Gunn is maintaining many things under the compresses for now, but the future of the DCU sounds far from boring.
