James Gunn’s Superman It could start a new era for DC Studios, but do not expect it to work like a domino in a long and interconnected chain. Despite present iconic characters such as Guy Gardner and Hawkgirl of Green Lantern, the film is not weighed down by future configurations or made around infinite for what the next one is.
Gamesradar+ sat with Gunn in London before the superman release of 11 July and the director clarified that the DCU is not to force each story to a giant puzzle.
“In terms of DCU in general, I want the films and TV programs to be mostly autonomous. I don’t want everything to give each other. I don’t think about this as a long story in which everyone must take every little piece.
“I think of this as the creation of a universe, and then people are able to jump and tell small pieces of the story from all that universe.”
It is a remarkable departure from the interconnected model made popular by Marvel Studios. Gunn is not interested in the vision based on the tasks in which every episode is required. Instead, he is building a sandbox in which creators can tell their stories within a shared, but not tied world.
However, some projects will connect, not everyone.
“There will be some stories connected over time. In fact, the season 2 of pacifier is very connected to Superman. But it does not need to be like this and I want people to enjoy any specific entertainment piece on their own.”
With David Corenswet Like Clark Kent, with Rachel Brosnahan Like Lois Lane e Nicholas Hault Taking Lex Luthor, Superman It serves as the first big theatrical step in chapter one by Gunn and Co-Cece Peter Safran: Gods and Monsters. But it is not just a springboard, it is a story with its voice, the rhythm and the destination.
So yes, Superman introduces a larger DC world, but it is not a trailer for future films. It is a complete experience. And this could be the most refreshing thing about it.
