While Superman launches the new DCU with a tone full of hope and a comic atmosphere of retroclassical errors, James Gunn It does not want that tone to call what follows.
In fact, he is pushing hard for each film in this new universe to feel wildly distinct in tone, style and genre. Gunn told Ign:
“It is really important for me that each project has its own stamp. This film is very different from the film Rated that we are making, a horror film of the body with Clayface.
“It is very different from the film rock. Craig Gillespie I just walked a second ago here, which directed it. So each of these films is completely different. “
Gunn’s approach sounds more as comics than we expect from the film universes. It even indicates the origin material for inspiration.
“What I love of DC comics and graphic novels is that they allowed individual artists and writers to create their own projects, and each of them had their own voice.
“Long Halloween, All-Star Superman, Dark Knight, Watchmen-This things have very little toned in common with each other, except to be part of the set of common characters found in the DC Comics universe. And now we are doing the same thing in the DCU.”
It is a rather interesting direction to take things and very different from how Marvel Studios has managed his shared universe. While the Marvel projects do in tone, they still feel cut from the same fabric, sewn together. DCU of Gunn could end more like a mixtape than a series of movies, and I think it’s fantastic!
With regard to ClayGunn clarified that it is not your average comic movie:
“[It’s] Pure fucking horror, as, totally real. Their version of that film is so real, true, psychological and horror of the body and gross. “
It will be interesting to see what happens with the different tones when all these characters begin to gather. But if Gunn attacks the landing, we could be the most free and unpredictable for the universe of superheroes we have ever seen.
What do you think, the approach of Gunn’s “Every Tone Is Fair Game” excites you or makes you nervous?
