James Gunn reveals that he has invented the MCU Infinity Stones tradition in 3 minutes

Much of the Marvel cinematographic universe depends on infinite stones. They led the plot for over a decade, arches in the shape of a character and culminated Avengers: Infinity War AND Endgame. While chatting with GQ and reflected on his race Marvel, Gunn randomly dropped that it was he who gave infinite stones their film tradition, and did so without a play plan from Marvel.

“I knew there were infinite stones when they said:” You know, we thought, and we think that perhaps some of these things were of Infinity Stones in different ways. And so, could you write what infinite stones mean? “”

Gunn said there were no formal outlines, no big Kevin Feige moment of the blackboard. Just a need for a connective tissue between “the red thing and the blue thing”.

“I was literally sitting for three minutes and I wrote it. And this is what has become the rest of the infinite stones.”

That scene with Benicio del ToroThe collector who explains the stones? That was the three -minute brain landfill of Gunn. And somehow, that small drop of tradition became the backbone of the entire infinity saga.

He also clarified that Marvel was not blocked in any color combination at the beginning:

“The stone of power in Guardians of the Galaxy was originally red. And then they decided the red thing in Thor: the dark world would have been the stone of reality. So [the Power Stone] It has become purple in the mail. “

It is a reminder of how fluid the world construction of the MCU was in those early days. The Infinity Stones were only only a placeholder that Gunn helped unify with a quick article. No massive committee, no great Bible. Only a boy with a keyboard, a knowledge of comics and three free minutes.
