Marvel Studios have just dropped an interesting revelation before The Fantastic Four: First StepsAnd it comes from a tie-in comic. Fantastic Four: first steps #1, written by Matt hamlet with art of Mark Buckinghamgives fans their first clear look Paul Walter HauserRole in the next film.
Hauser, better known for Richard Jewell and his roles that steal the scene in Cobra Kai AND CruelHe is officially playing Harvey Elder, better known by Marvel fans as a Mole Man. But not expecting an individual adaptation of the version of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby of 1961.
This new mole man is less a crazy scientist with a grudge and more … well, revolutionary.
In the original comics, the elderly was a dishonored scientist who discovered a world hidden under the earth’s surface, the underground, and ruled it with armies of monsters and humanoids similar to mole called moloids. He wanted revenge on the world of surface that laughed him from the academic world.
But in this MCU iteration, Hauser’s elderly is reinvented with a more politically accused background. The comic reveals that he is a union organizer who has become political, still the leader of the underground, but now he is framed as an egalitarian municipality of people (and monsters) in search of a better underground life.
His revolt is not guided by revenge, but by despair. The construction of surface threatens the stability of their underground society and the elderly reacts to protect it.
The comic itself plays with the comic nostalgia of the 60s, full of retro ads and a human torch fan club, but the story is based in the MCU. Let’s see the FF just powered to respond to Elder’s attack in Manhattan in what reflects their first mission.
Fantastic Four: first steps #1 hits the comic stores on July 9, 2025 and while it works like a promo in the universe of the Future Foundation, it is also our clearer window still in the atmosphere, politics and changes of the character Marvel Studios that leads to history.
