Souls fans have all the reasons to be wary when it comes to live-action remake. For every good project, there is a long trail of disappointing adaptations that are missing the heart, tone or only the basic visual magic of the original. But the first trailer for the live-action remake of 5 centimeters per second It could only be the exception.

Makoto ShinkaiThe 2007 film was praised for its peaceful emotional weight and dreamlike realism, and is obtaining treatment with live action and, based on this first look, it seems solid.

Directed by Yoshiyuki okuyama, 5 centimeters per second It was the second function of Shinkai following The place promised to our first days. It is told in three interconnected chapters, monitoring the emotional drift between two childhood friends, Takaki and Akari, while siding.

The synopsis reads: “Given in three interconnected segments, Takaki tells the story of his life of cruel winters, cold technology and, finally, obligations and responsibilities for adults converge to test the delicate petals of love”.

The film is the protagonist Hokuto Matsumura as an adult takaki tone, with Yuto Ueda AND Noa hirayama playing his younger self. While Shinkai explicit feelings for the original, calling it a result of his creative immaturity, director Yoshiyuki Okuyama clearly sees something without time, and undertakes to honor him.

Okuyama said: “There are things that can only be done now and prospects that in the end we will forget. I want to create every scene carefully and sincerely and every second, together with the team I trust with all my heart, as if he put a warm hand on the back of Takaki, who has a sense of loss and anxiety.

“Since this is a work that I have seen countless times alone, I feel the weight of responsibility every day. Each fan has their interpretation and the world of history, and I am one of them.”

The film opens in Japanese theaters on October 10th. We hope the rest is as beautiful as these first frames.
