AS James Gunn’S Superman Lands in the cinemas this week, the director revealed that he once transmitted the steel man long before taking the reins of the DC studios.
During a recent question and answer to London HMV, Gunn spoke about how he was offered the possibility of directing a Superman Film in 2018, but in the end he moved away from it.
“Initially I was offered to direct Superman in 2018, and I said no. I was discouraged by the task. I was not sure of how I would do.
At that point, the DCEU was still trying to keep together, with Henry Cavill He still wears the policy of the cloak and study in full swing. For Gunn, that landscape did not feel good.
“They didn’t want it to be … it would be politically disordered. So I said no, and I took the suicide, that it was more a type of family group. That I’m happy to have done it, it was fun.”
Fast forward of a few years and some studio and Gunn ShakeUp is now co-cecid of DC Studios, launching a brand new cinematic universe with Superman in the center.
David Corenswet The stars in the role of the title and Gunn is now writing, directing and fully responsible for the management. But even after saying no for the first time, he admits that the idea of facing Superman has never left him.
“But I continued to think of Superman, I couldn’t take it off my head. How would I do it, if I did it? How would that film be? How could I make it work for today’s audience? How could I speak to people?
“And in the end, [I] I started thinking that perhaps it was perhaps something I could do. So when they re -evaluated me with the idea of writing Superman, whatever it was, three years ago, I said yes. “
This has now led to what could be the wildest reinvention of Superman since Donner’s time, free from past continuity, from the studio shot or political baggage. Gunn’s version comes as a foundation of a new era. And this time, he is under his condition and I am enthusiastic about the future of the DCU!
