Cillian Murphy He is returning to the infected streets of the 28 days later Trilogy, but not immediately. According to the director Danny BoyleFans will not glimpse the original franchising advantage up to the last moments of 28 years later: The Bone TempleThe second film in a brand new trilogy. Boyle said to ign:
“It’s in the second. I shouldn’t give too much. I’ll be killed.”
The trilogy is being launched with 28 years laterwhich stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie ComerAND Ralph Fiennesand prepares the ground for a large -scale reimagination of the infected nightmare for the first time he gave life in 2002.
But despite being credited as an executive producer, Murphy does not appear at all in the first episode. His return was saved for a key moment at the end of the second film, a strategy that could determine if the third film is also made.
Boyle said to Business Insider:
“Everything I can say is that you have to wait for Cillian, but I hope you help us get the third financed film.”
Boyle and writer Alex Garland Mapped together the entire trilogy, with the second chapter, The bone templealready completed under the direction of Nia dacosta (Candyman).
The third and last chapter, however, has not been enlightened. His destiny depends on the returns to the box office and, possibly, on the power of Murphy’s stars. Boyle explained:
“Although every story [in the trilogy] It is completed, there is also a delivery section for the next film. So it’s very ambitious. We still don’t have the money for the third.
“It will depend on how the first does, I imagine. But I hope that if we do well, they will give us the green light for the money and for the third. Everyone is standing for this, really. Including Cillian.”
Murphy’s post-Oppenheimer Momentum and Oscar wins make it a precious piece of the puzzle. In fact, Boyle admitted that only having the name of Murphy Annex helped him push the study resistance on an unusual technical decision by shooting the film with iPhone.
“You promise them Cillian Murphy, this is a real deflection of any technical concerns. They soon forget. We used it naked to get our way. Which better promise could you do?”
In 2002, the role of Jim’s Murphy, a lonely survivor who wakes up in a post-apocalyptic United Kingdom, pulled him global recognition. Since then, fans have wanted to see his return to the franchise.
For now, fans will have to wait until January 16, 2026, when The bone temple It affects the theaters, to see Murphy return to chaos. But if everything goes according to the floors, that long -awaited cameo could be what is needed to illuminate the final chapter of the trilogy.
