If you have been on the internet at any time in the last ten years, you have probably seen the family choir: “Where is it The winds of winter? “It has become a meme, an appeal and sometimes a thrown request game of Thrones Creator George RR Martin Every time he announces … well, all that is not the next book in A song of ice and fire series.
This week, Martin faced that always persistent noise in a typically frank and personal post on his not a blog, triggered by the announcement of a new project: an animated adaptation of Howard Waldrop A dozen difficult jobs.
“I know, I know. Some of you will simply be pissed off by this, as you are by everything I announce here that it is not Westeros or the winds of winter. You have given me back or on the book.”
From there, the post took a strong turning point in a brutal honesty, and perhaps a little sarcasm, while Martin has reduced the recurring criticisms he has listened to over the years.
“I will never finish the winds, if I do it, I will never end a spring dream. If I do it, it will not be fine. I should make another writer pinch [finish it] For me …
“I will still do it soon, because I am so old. I lost all the interest in an ice and fire song decades ago. I don’t give a damn about writing, I sit and spend my money.”
He didn’t stop there. Martin stressed that many fans seem to be affected by anything he does out Westeros, that he is Wild Cardhis award -winning stories, or the many anthologies with which he edited the deceased Gardner Dozois.
“You could hate everything I have ever written … I don’t care about those, I know. You don’t care about winds from winter. You told me often.”
But if it seems that Martin is throwing the towel, think again.
“The thing is, I am interested in them and I also care about Westeros and Venti. Starks and Lannister and Targaryens, Tyrion and Asha, Dany and Daenerys, the dragons and Direwolves – I am interested in all of them. More than you ever imagine.”
Martin is not sweeping away Winds of winter. He is telling fans, in his slightly grumpy way, very George RR Martin: they are still in this. I still love these characters. I am not going to sacrifice every other part of my creative life to satisfy a request. Fairly right, but it takes so damn for a long time!
Martin has not abandoned Westeros. He is just trying to live a complete creative life outside Westeros. Fans have waited for the book for a long time, however, that there is not much more patience.
