Kung Fury’s director makes fun of the “Fantasy Punk” madness with the new film Dragonlord, a mix of He-Man, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings

David SandbergThe crazy genius behind the wild action movie Kung FuryHe returned with something wild, strange and completely his. While fans are still waiting for feature films Kung Fury 2 With Michael Fassbender AND Arnold Schwarzenegger (who remains blocked in legal limbo), the Swedish director is preparing his next project.

His next project is a “fantasy punk” film entitled DragonAnd it looks like a genus of gender Alevato in eleven. Sandberg said to Variety: “It is a really fun and really rich world with many funny characters. It is tonedly similar to Kung Fury”.

He continued to describe the film as “a crazy mixture of things”, adding, “there is no film that I can think is exactly how. But yes, it’s like He-Man mixed with Star Wars AND Lord of the Rings AND Mad Max and also Ninja turtles… but it will surely feel very different, I think, from anything. “

Well, it looks crazy! If that list of inspiration does not raise an eyebrow, just wait to hear what the film is about.

In DragonSandberg will recite as the character of the title, “a hunter obsessed with the treasure whose best friend is a Tyrannosaurus Rex called Blaze Falcon. Rather than hunting for even more treasures, however, Blaze just wants to go out and play his video games, but when he is kidnapped by the evil Dreadmacer, Dragonlord must put together a bonkers team to save his Dinake drums.

This new project is clearly another journey into the nostalgic and synthesized brain of Sandberg, a place where the action tropes of the 80s crashes into the cartoons on Saturday morning, all linked together with Lo-Fi VFX and ironic storytelling.

It completely makes sense from the boy who brought us Kung Fury, who launched his career and stormed the Internet with his exaggerated mixture of time travel, Kung Fu and Nazis.

Kung Fury 2The sequel for a length of functionality with Fassbender and Schwarzenegger has been completed since 2019, but has not yet been released due to legal complications with investors. It is not clear when, or if, the film will see the light of the day, but Sandberg seems ready to move the focus and energy in this new chaotic fantasyverse.

Dragon It does not yet have a release date, but when it is released, we can expect something colorful, unbridled and, unlike anything else in cinemas. Or streaming services. Or your dreams.
