Hideo KojimaThe Creator of Solid metal and the wildly unconventionally Stranding of death He confirmed that his post-apocalyptic game that challenges the genre is not only direct on the big screen, it is also adapted in an anime.
In a recent interview with Vogue Japan, Kojima randomly dropped the news as he discussed the next Stranding of death Film, which is being developed with the Indie A24 power:
“I am also also working with A24 on a live cinematographic adaptation of Death Stranding. When it comes to the cinematographic adaptations of the games, there have been recent films such as The Last of Us who maintain the plot of the original Intatto and films such as the Super Mario Bros. film that are more similar to a service for fans of the game.
“Each of these works has its merits, but as a lover of cinema, I want to pursue the expression as a film. I am aiming to make the crossbar of death in a way that can only be done as a film, and that will win awards at the Cannes Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival. In fact, we are also working on an anime adaptation.”
Kojima is clearly thinking beyond the only prestigious games and cinema. He is aiming to build Stranding of death in a universe of multiplatform narrative.
At this moment, the details of the souls are mainly in the phase. No study has been attacked and we still do not know if it will be a direct adaptation of the original game or if it will immerse itself in the deepest mythology of the Stranding universe.
Considering Kojima’s love for a large construction of the world and surreal images, there is certainly room to explore the characters, the prequel elements or even the completely original plots within this world.
Kojima also spoke a little more on the future of the IP in that same interview, explaining:
“To strengthen our IP, we are making a sequel, and this is a game and we will continue to add more to various platforms. Those that come later are different forms of average: films, souls, TV dramas, etc. basically, expanding the IP game on other media. This is the second phase. This is what we are aiming for the neighbor.”
This “second phase” Kojima mentions next month with the release of Death stranding 2: on the beachwhich drops on June 26th. That sequel should further explore the story of Sam Porter Bridges (Norman Reedus) and the strange world that still tries to reconnect after a supernatural extinction event.
Meanwhile, the film version of the live-action of Stranding of death It is written and directed by Michael Sarnoski (Pork, a quiet place: first day), and if that team was not enough to raise the eyebrows, Kojima is openly shooting in Cannes and Venice.
No release window has yet been announced for the anime, but given the scale of Kojima’s ambitions, you can expect something visually fantastic and ambitious narrative.
We will keep our eyes open for more information on this project while developing.
