Disney Live-Action Remake Lilo & Stitch Now he is playing in cinemas. He had a strong weekend of opening the Memorial Day and while the study made an effort to regain the emotional nucleus of the original, a big change has longtime fans who call foul.
For many fans, the way the film ends is not just a creative freedom, it is a betrayal of what the original film was talking about … Ohana.
At first glance, the remake plays it safe. The dynamic between Lilo and Nani, the sisters who are held on each other after the death of the parents remains central. Nani is still nineteen, still fiercely protective, still trying to keep his fractured family together despite the impending pressure of children’s services.
If you are watching with nostalgia glasses, you could be cradled in thinking: “Okay, they have kept their hearts”. But then the third act strikes.
In the original animation film, the emotional climax depends on dwarfs which refuses to give up Lilo custody. It is not just a point of the plot; It is the entire emotional spine. His will to fight for his sister, to sacrifice his dreams to preserve their bond, is what made their relationship so powerful.
In the live-action version, however, that link ends with a handshake and a farewell.
Lilo remains in Hawaii with neighbors while Nani heads to the college of San Diego. It is a great rewriting of the original ending and, for many fans, has completely reduced what has made Nani such a loved character.
“Nani do not give up Lilo’s custody and fighting for her was the point,” he published a fan, @inkfycreates, published online. “Nani and Lilo [bonding] Due to the point it was the point. “
Another fan, @jemstargold, criticized change as a misleading attempt to modernize dwarfs, saying: “This seems to be an attempt by Girlboss Nani giving it more ambitions, but they could have easily expanded on what the original implied.
“Shows that he was a aspiring professional surfers before he should take care of Lilo, then he persecutes her again at the end.”
They are not wrong. It is not a question of hating the ambition or growth of the character, on how they did to do it. The original film did not need to show Nani by renouncing everything forever. But he clarified that his first priority was Lilo.
The live-action version launches that dynamic, and in doing so the thing that has made Nani has made such a hero for so many.
Yes, the film is going well to the box office. Yes, the public is presenting itself. But this does not mean that fans are not authorized to be disappointed when the soul of a story is removed in the name of reinvention.
Live-Action Lilo & Stitch It is in cinemas now, and if you are curious, it is worth seeing alone. Just don’t be surprised if the ending leaves a sting.
Let us know what you think! Did Disney made the right call or completely lost the Ohana Mark?
