CAPTAIN PLANET is returning with a new comic series

Dynamite announced that they are producing a Captain Planet comic series with the writer David Peposewho is also currently working on the Space Ghost comic book series.

It’s been 33 years since the original ’90s cartoon series ended, and the story will now continue with an older, green-bearded version of Captain Planet.

Captain Planet and the Planeteers was a group of teenage heroes from around the world who wielded elemental powers, summoning their champion Captain Planet to help them fight pollution and climate change.

The comic’s description reads: “Scorching hot superstar writer David Pepose (Space ghost, cable) merges his powers with the artist Eman Casallos (Vampirella, Pathfinder) for the first comic book series starring Captain Planet in over three decades.

“They’re kicking off the story with a bold but faithful modernization of the franchise, along the same lines as Pepose’s approach to the hugely successful Space Ghost series.”

“Before these aspiring eco-warriors can gain their new powers in the pursuit of environmental justice, they will have to learn to trust each other.

“It will be even more of a trial by fire when Gaia is abducted, forcing the inexperienced Planeteers to learn in action against the well-funded might of Lucian Plunder. Their first test against Earth’s ruthless exploiters won’t be the most difficult, but it all starts from here!”

Pepose said in a statement: “Every comics creator has their own personal white whale – that singular property they’ve been dying to make their mark on – and for more than a decade Captain Planet has been mine.”

We also include a gallery of covers for Captain Planet #1 showing off his new look, including the covers of Marco Spears, Christian DepartmentAND Ben Oliveralong with the first of six tie-in covers for the first story arc of the series by Jae Lee and June Chung.
