Oscar nominee Jesse Eisenberg he’s been in so many great movies and series over the years, including The social network, Adventure Land, Ultra AmericanTHE Zombieland AND Now you see me franchising, Fleishman is in troubleand more.
And just like any other actor, there have been projects that have been much less well received. One film on the latter list is the DC sequel Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
While sitting down to talk about his career on the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax and Monica, Eisenberg explained that when that movie came out, he was “two steps out the door” when it came to Hollywood.
He felt that the company would “spit me out tomorrow” and intended to focus more on his work as a playwright.
Then, his mother-in-law got sick, so he and his wife spent most of their time in his hometown of Bloomington, Indiana, helping her and he “wasn’t around” (meaning the movie business) for quite some time . that the news of BVS reception simply hadn’t touched him for quite some time.
“I was in this Batman movie and the Batman movie was so poorly received, and I was so poorly received. I’ve never said this before and it’s a little embarrassing to admit, but I honestly think it really hurt my career because I was poorly received in something so public.
“I’ve been in poorly received situations that just don’t see the light of day, and for the most part no one knows about it, but they were so public and I don’t read notices or reviews or movie press or anything, so I wasn’t aware of how bad had been accepted.
Once he understood how the film and his performance were received, he felt the negativity would hurt his career, as the scope and scope of the film was much larger than his typical project. He continued saying:
“I loved my role and I loved the movie and doing it and everything, so I feel to blame. I’m not like, “They hurt me.” I’m like, “Oh, I guess I did something wrong”… It was depressing, but I’m always depressed in a way. [I] just like ‘Oh, yeah, of course I had this great opportunity, obviously it didn’t go well,’ just pessimism.”
Eisenberg has continued to recover and will hopefully have more to be proud of these days. The actor will release Now you see me 3 in 2025, and is in pre-production on a comedy/musical Untitled which he wrote and will direct, and which will star Paolo Giamatti AND Juliana Moore.
