Matt Reeves talks about the script for THE BATMAN PART II and confirms talks about the second season of THE PENGUIN

There are many people who wonder why Batman Part II It’s been this long in the making and fans now have a recent update straight from the director Matt Reeves.

In a recent conversation with The Batmanit’s Catwoman, Zoe Kravitzper Variety, Reeves confirmed that work on the highly anticipated sequel is slowly progressing.

“Yes, we are finishing the script. We’re shooting next year,” Reeves revealed, addressing months of speculation about the film’s status.

This update comes shortly after James Gunn he said a first draft has not yet been delivered. Kravitz then praised Reeves for his meticulous approach, sharing:

“You are an incredibly meticulous director. I just asked you how your writing is going [‘Part II’] and you said, “Slow,” and I think that’s a wonderful quality, because you care so much.

Reeves explained the pace of his creative process, explaining, “The thing is, for me I feel like it’s not a choice. I always feel like I would never do it the way I’m doing it, except it’s the only way I know how to do it.

He went on to describe writing and filmmaking as navigating a dark room. “Everything you need is in the room, but there are no lights and you’re on your hands and knees. And when something connects with you, you say, “Oh, that’s something.”

While details about the sequel remain under wraps, fans are speculating about potential villains, with names like Hush, The Joker, The Court of Owls, and Mr. Freeze floating at the top of wish lists.

Reeves also talked about the future of HBO The Penguinthe incredible spin-off centered on Colin FarrellIt’s Oz Cobb. Reeves confirmed that discussions about a second season are already underway.

“Yes, we’re talking [showrunner] Lauren [LeFranc] to do another season. It was a special experience. I feel really lucky. These characters don’t belong to me; they belong to the world. It depends on whether you can approach them in a way that expresses something personal.

Considering the time required for the complex realization of Reeves Batman universe to unfold, a second season of The Penguin could help bridge the gap Batman Part II and its possible sequel.

Batman Part II is scheduled to hit theaters on October 2, 2026, and fans can expect another gritty and thought-provoking chapter in his “Batman Epic Crime Saga.”
