KARATE KID: LEGENDS Director Says There Were ‘Really Detailed Conversations’ With COBRA KAI Team

The first trailer of Karate Kid: Legends recently released and it looks like a great new chapter in the Karate Kid series.

Director Jonathan Entwistle recently spoke about the film with Entertainment Weekly and said the Cobra Kai team was brought in to help connect the film to the series.

The film that unites Ralph Macchio AND Jackie Chan joining as Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Han. Together they will teach Ben WangLi Fong some martial arts skills and life lessons.

Entwistle said: “I was excited that the films and the series could be part of one family. I’ve had some really detailed conversations with the Cobra Kai team about cool things we can do in the film and we can do that.” make this whole thing holistic.”

The director continued: “And obviously Ralph is really, really close to us after all those years on Cobra Kai, and they’ve been involved in little steps along the way.

“Everything we talked about was put into the film one way or another, whether it was through Ralph or through conversations. We’re really excited to have added another piece to the overall universe.”

Karate Kid: Legends takes place three years after the events of Cobra Kai and sees Daniel join forces with Mr. Han.

Macchio previously spoke about the film, saying, “It wasn’t a quick decision, because it was about protecting Daniel LaRusso’s character, finding out where he would be at that point, and then protecting the entire legacy of the Miyagi-verse.

“Once we were able to align it, for the Cobra Kai The story to be driven in the new film – even though they are separate ecosystems – all made sense to me. So, working with Jackie was just super exciting. I started doing it on the big screen. How great is it to bring it back to the big screen?”

In the film, Li Fong is a teenager living in Beijing who moves to New York with his mother (Ming-Na Wen). “The teenager’s transition to the Big Apple is, in a word, bitter: Li has trouble fitting in at his new school, and keeps getting dragged into fights he’d like to avoid.

“When a new friend needs his help, Li enters a karate competition, but his skills alone aren’t enough. Li’s kung fu teacher, Mr. Han (Chan), turns to the Original Karate for help Kid Daniel LaRusso (Macchio) and Li learn a new way to fight, fusing their two styles into one for the ultimate martial arts showdown.”

Karate Kid: Legends will be released in theaters on May 30, 2025.
