James Gunn shares new SUPERMAN details involving Lex Luthor, Clark and Lois’ relationship and more

Superman director James Gunn continues to tease his film with new story details involving Lux Luthor, the relationship and dynamic between Lois and Clark, and his approach to Superman’s dual identity.

While speaking with The Wrap, Gunn confirmed that he will skip the origin story when he said, “We’re just starting in the middle of the action. Superman already exists. Lois and Clark already know each other.”

As for Lex Luthor, he said, “Lex hates Superman from the beginning, even though they don’t know each other personally. So we start right in the middle of the action. It takes place in a short amount of time.”

Speaking about his approach to the Clark Kent and Lois Lane dynamic, Gunn shared: “David and Rachel’s relationship [characters] It’s something on screen that I don’t think we’ve ever seen – I hate to say things like that – but I don’t think it’s something we’ve ever seen in any superhero movie.”

He continues: “It’s a complicated relationship and we really get into it and there are long scenes that are about their relationship and how they relate and what it would be like for a person who is an incredibly intelligent, stubborn, stubborn and skeptical journalist. be in a relationship with someone who can lift a skyscraper.”

When Lois was asked if she was aware that Clark is Superman, Gunn replied, “Well, we’ll see. She knows who Superman is.”

Then there’s the way Superman balances his dual identity. Discussing this the director shared, “People said a lot of different things. They said, ‘Clark is the real one.’ They said, “Superman is the real one and Clark is the secret identity.”

«But I don’t believe in any of these things. I don’t think anyone knows Superman unless they both know him. And when they both know him, they know the real guy. And that means not too many people.”

Gunn also talked about the tone of the film and it seems like he’s found a good balance. He said: “It’s funny, but it’s certainly not that comical or even a comedy Suicide squad OR Guardians. There’s a lot of humor in it.”

“People like it Rachel Brosnahan they are so funny and David Corenswet it’s also very funny, so there’s humor, but it’s trying to create something that’s grounded, but it’s also an incredibly imaginative world, it’s fantasy, it takes inspiration from other things like “Game of Thrones,” where this universe is where superheroes really exist.”

Gunn’s Superman will be unlike any Superman film we’ve seen before and I can’t wait to see his vision on the big screen!

Superman arrives in theaters July 11, 2025.
