A remake of the classic musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is in the works at Amazon MGM Studios and “James Bond” backer Eon Productions.
The film is in the early stages of development with executives at Eon and Amazon meeting with potential writers and directors. It is scheduled for theatrical release.
Dick Van Dyke he starred in the 1968 original Chitty Chitty Bang Banga child-friendly musical fantasy film adapted from the children’s book by the creator of James Bond Ian Fleming.
Directed by Ken Hughesproduced by Broccoli Albert “Cubby”. and written by Roald DahlHughes and Richard Maibaumthe story follows widowed inventor Caractacus Potts (Dyke) and his sons, who salvage a scrapped racing car with magical abilities in pre-war England. The film’s title song was nominated for an Oscar.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang it was also made into a stage musical with six new songs by the Sherman brothers, who wrote the music for the film.
The show premiered in London in 2002 before debuting on Broadway in 2005. It subsequently toured the United States, Australia, Singapore and Germany and is currently performing in the United Kingdom.
This project continues the partnership between Amazon MGM and Eon Productions, responsible for bringing the Bond franchise to the big screen.
I never knew that the children’s book was written by Ian Fleming. It’s a really interesting piece of Hollywood history. Stay tuned for more updates on the film as the project develops.
