The third episode of Star Wars: The Skeleton Crew dropped this week and introduced us to it Jude Lawis the mysterious “Jedi” character who has three names that include Jod Na Nawood, Captain Silvo, and Crimson Jack.
He’s clearly a cocky scoundrel who has a mysterious past that will be revealed before the end of the season. There’s still a lot we don’t know about the character, and one of the big questions is… is he really a Jedi?
We don’t know if he’s pretending to be a Jedi, if he actually was one once, or he’s just a Force-sensitive guy who knows how to perform little Jedi tricks.
Law offered some insight into his character in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, saying, “Well, it kind of comes with the territory. I knew I should still be cautious. And what I loved about him is that he is full of contradictions.
“You never know who he is or what he’s capable of because he has all these facets and faces and names, and I mean, if I used one word, I’d say he’s a survivor, right? And witty and agile. But is it a threat? You’ll have to wait and see.”
Law went on to tease that his character possesses the Force, explaining, “That doesn’t come out until the end, when you really get a sense of his backstory and why he might be a Force user and is Force-sensitive.” . .
“And it was a detail that was always there, but [creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford] and I really went back and made sure we were all on the same page about where it was born and what happened.
Speaking about his past, Law said: “And it’s quite interesting, but a very revealing page from his past, I would say he’s not someone who had a childhood. He’s someone who had his childhood taken away from him, and that’s why he looks at children with a certain disdain.
“They’re just little adults. Why don’t they understand that they have to move forward and survive? And why are they so inexperienced? He has no real concept of innocence.
Speaking about the character’s motivations, the actor said: ‘“Initially, it was just getting out of prison. At that time, it was about leaving that planet, and if you have a spaceship, you can go anywhere if it’s fueled and you know how to use it.
“So for him it’s always kind of one step at a time. And of course, there’s always this hint in these credits and this mysterious place that no one really thinks is real where they say they’re from.
“So just sniffing this out and really finding out if it’s a plausible line is really what’s on his mind right now.”
I had fun Skeleton crew! It’s fun and silly Star Wars show, and it will be interesting to see how Crimson Jack’s story arc continues to unfold as the series unfolds.
