The classic comedy series Malcolm in the middle is getting a limited series revival on Disney+ just in time for its 25th anniversary.
The revival will consist of only four episodes featuring members of the original cast Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston AND Jane Kaczmarek reprising their roles as Malcolm and his parents Hal and Lois respectively.
They are expected to be joined by other cast members from the original show, but these three characters will be the focus of the new episodes.
In the story, “Malcolm (Munitz) and his daughter are dragged into family chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) request his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.”
Malcolm in the middle Creator Linwood Boomers he will also return as a writer on new episodes and as a production director Ken Kwapis will direct all four episodes.
This revival has been teased by Muniz and Cranston in the past, and it’s great to see that we’ll see what these characters do all these years later, even if it’s only for four episodes.
Christopher Kennedy Masterson AND Justin Berfieldwho played their two eldest sons Francis and Reese in the original, will likely be approached to reprise their roles.
But it’s explained Erik Per Sullivanwho played the younger brother, Dewey, is unlikely given that he stopped acting in 2010 and has not been part of any of the Malcolm in the middle meetings.
Cranston is executive producing the new episodes alongside Boomer, his wife, comedic TV producer Tracy Katsky and Gail Berman, who developed and sold the original series as president of Regency TV.
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, said in a statement: “Malcolm in the middle is a historical sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humor, heart and relatability.
“Its hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of a lovable, chaotic family has resonated with audiences of all ages, and we’re so excited to welcome the original cast to bring that magic back to life.
“With Linwood Boomer and the creative team at the helm, these new episodes will feature all the laughs, jokes and mayhem fans love, along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless.”
Karey Burke, president of 20th Television, added: “Malcolm in the middle it literally changed the face of the television comedy landscape when it premiered two decades ago, redefining what the genre could be.
“When Linwood Boomer suggested that maybe it was time to bring back our favorite dysfunctional family for a little reunion, we couldn’t think of a more iconic and influential series to revisit, along with a truly brilliant cast to reunite.”
And here’s a bit of trivia for you, I appeared in several episodes of Malcolm in the Middle as a background extra with my brother during Malcolm’s high school years.
Are you excited to hear that we’re going new? Malcolm in the middle episodes!?
