Whimsical trailer and poster for Canadian indie dog adoption film THE HEIRLOOM

A trailer and poster have been released for the quirky Canadian indie film The heirlooma sort of romantic comedy about a couple who adopts a dog. the film is based in part on the director Ben Petriehis real-life relationship with the actress Grace Glowicki.

As well as co-writing and co-directing the film, the pair also star as well as Eric and Allie, a couple who decide to adopt a rescue dog during lockdown.

The small cast also includes Matt Johnson as a veterinarian and Leah Doz as your veterinary technician.

The film’s synopsis reads:

The Heirloom follows a control freak who is struck by artistic inspiration when he and his girlfriend adopt a traumatized rescue dog (Milly) and begin attempting to train her. A devoutly funny romantic comedy psychodrama, The Heirloom is a deeply intimate and personal chamber piece about a longtime couple desperately struggling to become a family.

This isn’t your average romantic comedy about adopting a pet. It really explores some strange themes and ideas. It sounds like a good movie, but more for your cinema connoisseur than your Hallmark-loving film watcher.

Check out the trailer below and watch The heirloom in select US theaters in early 2025.
