GKids has released a trailer for an upcoming anime film titled The ghost cat Anzuwhich debuted at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
The film follows the story of Karin, 11 years old, who is abandoned by her father at the home of her grandfather, a monk from a small town in the Japanese countryside. Her grandfather asks Anzu, his jovial and helpful, if rather capricious, ghost cat to take care of her. The meeting of these two strong characters creates sparks, at least at the beginning….
The ghost cat Anzuoriginally known as 化け猫あんずちゃん in Japanese, it is co-directed by the two Japanese filmmakers Yoko Kuno (character designer/storyboard artist/director of the “Land of the Lustrous” series) e Nobuhiro Yamashita (director of Foggy Life, Nobody’s Ark, Ramblers, Cream Lemon, Linda Linda Linda, The Matsugane Potshot Case, A Gentle Breeze in the Village, My Last Pages, The Ungrateful Train, Misono Universe, Over the Fence, My Uncle, Takayuki Yamada , Difficult -Core, one second forward, one second back, let’s go to karaoke!and more).
The screenplay is written by Shinji Imaoka; based on the manga by Takashi Imashiro. Produced by Shin-ei Animation (Japan) and Miyu Productions (France).
The film premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and was first released in Japan in July. GKids debuts The ghost cat Anzu in select theaters November 15, 2024.
