New WOLF MAN image and Leigh Whannell teases the film is ‘pure, straight-up horror’

We have a new image to share with you for Universal Pictures’ Wolfman film, and presents Christopher AbbottoBlake’s character begins his transformation into a werewolf.

The director of the film, Leigh WhannellHe also talked about the film in an interview with Empire, and anticipated that he wants Wolfman to be “horror pure and simple.”

He told Empire: “Update it was more sci-fi. I was watching a lot of domestic thrillers when I wrote The Invisible Manbecause I love that genre. [Wolf Man] It’s like I’m saying, ‘I just wanted to make something that was pure, simple horror.’

Whannell, who also directed The Invisible Manhe continued saying: “I consider it a companion piece to The Invisible ManI didn’t want this movie to be nostalgic or retro. Wolfman film in any way.”

So, this is going to be a very different and unique take on werewolf mythology. He added: “[I was] I actually write down in my notebook everything that’s been done and then I say, “Okay, this is the list of what not to do.”

“I hope that when the lights come on, you walk in and say, ‘Oh wow, I’ve never seen that werewolf movie.’”

In the film, Blake, a husband and father from San Francisco, “inherits his isolated childhood home in rural Oregon after his father disappears and is presumed dead.

“With his marriage to his powerful wife Charlotte (Julia Garner; Ozark, Inventing Anna), fraying, Blake convinces Charlotte to take a break from the city and visit the estate with their young daughter, Ginger (Matilda Firth; Hull lifters, Coma).

“But when the family approaches the farmhouse in the dead of night, they are attacked by an unseen animal and, in a desperate escape, they barricade themselves inside the house as the creature stalks the perimeter.

“But as the night progresses, Blake begins to behave strangely, morphing into something unrecognizable, and Charlotte will be forced to decide if the terror inside their home is more deadly than the danger outside.”

The film is scheduled for release in January 2025.
