We will all go and see Deadpool and Wolverine this weekend, but they almost got a shitty title that no one would like. While promoting the release of their upcoming buddy movie on Jimmy Kimmel Live, My name is Ryan Reynolds. AND Hugh Jackman revealed that the original title of the film was Deadpool and friend!
To be honest, I was one of the original title haters. I’m sure the filmmakers had a reason for the title, but it just felt a little out of place. Here’s what Reynolds told Jimmy Kimmell about the title change: (via gamesradar)
“The title leaked and we watched it and listened to it [to the fans]. And they fucking hated that title,” “We didn’t feel so good about it anymore.”
“It fit the trailer we were showing, it was the perfect title for the early material we had out there. [Director] Shawn Levy… he and I were sitting in the editing room and we called everyone at Disney and Marvel and said, ‘We have to change the title.’
“We didn’t take no for an answer,” Reynolds recalled. “We were like, ‘We’re changing the title. I’m never calling this movie Deadpool and Friend!’ And they did. They literally changed the title.”
I’m sure it took a lot to change things 24 hours before release, but I’m glad they did. What we have now feels much more in keeping with the feel of the movie.
Deadpool and Wolverine It’s coming out in theaters this weekend and I hope to see you there.
