M. Night Shyamalan says working on his daughter’s upcoming directorial debut THE WATCHERS ‘changed him as a director’

Director M. Night Shyamalan he is best known for his mystery thrillers such as The sixth sense, Signs, The villageAND Dividedbut it was his work on his daughter’s directorial debut to release this week, the horror mystery The observerswhich according to him “changed him as a director”.

In an interview with GamesRadar, Shyamalan said about working on his daughter, Ishana Night Shyamalan film:

“It’s the same job I’ve done all my life, but with a different intention. I have to stick with it [Ishana]. It’s not something that occurred to me; it’s something she invented. That created a different engine for me as I directed those scenes for her. I almost became a student again from the beginning. What is the dream: to start seeing it as new [again]. He changed me as a director for myself, for my new film.”

His new film is Trap, a thriller starring Josh Hartnett as a father who takes his daughter to a concert. The event is used by the police as a trap to lure a vicious serial killer and we can definitely expect some major twists.

As for The observersthe story is based on the book by AM Shine and follows Mina (Dakota Fanning) as she gets stuck in a dense Irish forest without any electricity. Coming across a curious hut inhabited by other lost souls, Mina learns of the existence of the Watchers.

The strange creatures leave the people in the cabin alone as long as they stay in the woods, respect their rules and allow themselves to be observed every night. Ishana Night Shymalan directs the film from a script written by her.

The observers will be released in theaters on June 7th. Trap will be released in theaters later this summer, on August 9th.
