Roku has announced that they will revive the 1950s drama series Rope! in a comic retelling with protagonist Ty Burrell (Modern family), with Bryan Cranston on board for executive production.
According to Roku, the new series “reshapes the drama of the vintage 1950s series into a slapstick comedy, in which Burrell plays a lone wolf detective who follows cases from town to town, while searching for his long-lost love who has run away ”.
Charlie Collier, president of Roku Media, said in a statement:
“From Rope! is a comedy about a detective (and the discovery of a Wallenda who seemed off-brand) we’re thrilled to have Ty Burrell and Bryan Cranston joining us at Roku for this imaginative and fun series. What a joy it is to welcome Ty and Bryan to the Roku Originals lineup, along with the Moonshot and Desert Whale teams and our partners at Village Roadshow Television. We are happy to add Rope! to our growing list of originals to delight our audiences.
Cranston said in a statement:
“I was inspired by old drama series from the 1950s, to mess it up and create a new version of a crazy comedy, never seen before in a TV series. Is the rope the result of a fever dream and conceived over a bowl of chilli by Chasens, good connoisseur?”
Burrell added, “I’m so excited to be working with Bryan and Roku Originals on this crazy (in the best way) idea of a show.”
