Frank Adkinson Jr. and Candice Vernon to co-write time-bending dark indie comedy 117 YEARS OF BULLSH*T

Frank Adkinson Jr. AND Candice Vernon have announced their dark, indie, time-bending comedy 117 years of cinematic bullshit.

The pair will write the film, which will be directed by Vernon, and Adkinson will co-star alongside Kimble Blue (P-Valley, merciless), Jesse C. Boyd (Walking DeadNetflix External banks), AND Karen Obilom (Destiny Patrol, The HBO ones Insecure).

117 years of movies, bullshit marks the first project of the newly formed Viral Productions LLC. The film took two years to make, born out of the creator’s frustration with the lack of opportunities in the industry at the time, inspiring the two to delve deeper and use their own voice to create their own story.

The plot follows two aspiring Hollywood stars who are unexpectedly sent back in time Gone With the Wind it was from the evil Dick Whitman, an old-school studio executive.

As they desperately try to return to the present, the two find themselves repeatedly trapped in the roles of token black characters in films from years ago, forced to confront the eyebrow of Hollywood’s past.

“There’s so much about us that I feel like we can’t show it to the public. We can tell amazing stories, we can show unique perspectives,” said Frank Adkinson Jr. “My mantra is never let the budget dictate your imagination. You never know how things will go.”

Vernon adds: “I wanted to create this film because I’m obsessed with old films, time travel, technology and advancing the black narrative through storytelling. So it seemed right to do it all at once.

“As I wrote, I kept thinking Ta-Nehisi Coates’ novel Between me and the world, and how in America black bodies and our images do not seem to belong to us. This is a reminder and a love letter to our people that we can and should create our own narratives, both on and off the screen.”

“We made this film to show that we are more than what our stereotypes portray us in the movies,” Kimble says. “We are more than thugs, drug dealers and basketball players.”

Post-production for 117 years of movies, bullshit is currently underway.
