Anthony Mackie Describes Working on Series Like TWISTED METAL vs. Marvel – Marvel Is ‘Controlled Entertainment’

Anthony Mackie he’s spent the last decade playing Falcon/Sam Wilson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, evolving into taking over the mantle of Captain America from his friend Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). He is set to return to the role next year Captain America: Brave New Worldas well as the two Avengers films that will follow.

Right now, Mackie is preparing to reprise his role as John Doe, an amnesiac milkman, who must deliver a mysterious package with unknown contents across the apocalyptic United States, in the Peacock series. Twisted metalbased on the popular video game franchise of the same name.

Speaking about how the two types of franchises differ in a recent interview, Mackie explained to Radio Times:

“I would say Marvel is completely different, precisely because it is a controlled entertainment space. For example, there is only so much you can do. There’s only so much creativity you can bring to the table, because Stan Lee gave us so much content. While with this [Twisted Metal], it was like, ‘There’s a boy and a girl… Go!’ So we were really able to build the world around it.”

He went on to add:

“That’s the hard thing about the Marvel universe. It’s like you can’t really get outside the lines of those comics. You know, when we introduced the Falcon and the growth of the Falcon in Captain America, all of that had to match what Stan had already given us. AND [Twisted Metal] it was more like, ‘Let’s have fun and figure it out as we go.'”

I see the advantages and disadvantages of both. It’s probably a great feeling to be able to have the freedom to play the role after having to stay so rigid in one source material for the last ten years.

We don’t have a release date for season 2 of yet Twisted metalbut stay tuned and we’ll let you know as the project develops.
