Our first official look Tim Burton’S Beetle juice Beetle juice it came with two photos featuring the film’s main cast members. They include Michael Keaton back as Beetlejuice, and he looks great! The other features of the photo Catherine O’Hara in the role of Delia, Jenna Ortega in the role of Astrid, Winona Ryder like Lydia, e Justin Theroux as Rory.
Burton also spoke about the film with EW and, regarding the story it tells, all he says is that “The sequel picks up decades later with a death in the family. That’s all I’ll say. Something happens that sets things in motion.”
When speculating what sets things in motion, it could be the death of Lydia’s father, Charles Deetz (Jeffrey Jones), but the director played coy, saying, “We’ll see.”
Burton also goes on to describe having Keaton return for the role and wear the classic costume and makeup as “a strange out-of-body experience. He just went back to it. It was a little scary for someone who maybe wasn’t overly interested in to do it. It was such a beautiful thing for me to see all the cast, but he, some kind of demonic possession, went right back to work.”
The director went on to talk about some of the other concepts for a Beetlejuice sequel that have been discussed over the years saying, “We talked about a lot of different things, this was early on when we were going, Beetlejuice and the haunted house, Beetlejuice goes west, Anything. A lot of things came out.”
The thing that inspired Burton to make this story is that it revolves around Ryder’s Lydia and brings together three generations of Deetz women, including O’Hara’s Delia and Ortega’s Astrid. The director said: “I so identified with the character of Lydia, but then you get to all these years later, and you go on your journey, going from cool teenager to lame adult, back and forth. That made it exciting, I it gave a foundation. So that was the thing that really got me involved.”
The film is also the protagonist Monica Bellucci like Beetlejuice’s wife in the story, and Willem Dafoe a B-movie action star who died and became a police officer in the afterlife.
Alfred Gough AND Miles Millar (Wednesday AND Smallville) wrote the screenplay along with an earlier draft of Seth Grahame-Smith AND David Katzenberg. Katzenberg and Grahame-Smith are also producing. Danny Elfman he is returning to compose the score.
