Coyotes vs. Acme star Eric Bauza shared some images from the film that Warner Bros. scrapped. The photos show Wile E. Coyote, who Bauza voices in the film, holding a grenade, and another of him holding an “Oh shit” sign before falling. Then there’s one of Road Runner in action. It’s a real shame that this film will never see the light of day.
Will Forte he also stars in the film as Wile E. Coyote’s lawyer in the story. Warner Bros. shelved the film due to a tax write-off. However, after the studio received some backlash against that decision, WB was labeled an “anti-art studio.” A U.S. congressman pressured Warner Bros. Discovery to shop the film to other distributors. Bauza seems confident that Coyote Vs. Acme will find a new home and be released in 2024. The caption with the photo says, “See you in 2024!!”
Several directors have seen the film and they all had nothing but great things to say about it! You can read their reactions here. Actor Paolo Scheer said: “Coyotes vs. Acme might be the best version of Looney Tunes ever seen on the big screen. @dgreenmachine and samyburch did it. He has jokes, he has heart and he has Will Forte. Don’t miss it (the deep pulls with cartoon cameos are also A+).” Chris Miller said: “I saw COYOTE VS ACME and it’s delightful. Funny, charming, good physical comedic timing, with a surprising amount of heart. I hope several studios follow this so the world can see all the good work people do.
Acme was directed by Dave Greenfrom a screenplay by Samy Burch and a story of James Gunn, Jeremy Slater and Burch. The story was partially inspired by a New Yorker article written by Ian Frazier in 1990, and John Cena stars in the film as the CEO of Acme.
Will Forte We previously talked about how much fun it was to make the film and also shared some details about the story, saying:
“I mean, it was so fun to make. It came out of an article that I think is decades old. Wiley Coyote sued the Acme Corporation because of all the different contraptions exploding in his face, and stuff like that. And so, I get to play Wile E. Coyote’s lawyer, and it’s a mixture of animation, and it’s like a Who Framed Roger Rabbit-style movie. And yeah, John Cena is great. There’s Lana Condor. It’s It was so much fun making it and these guys who are making it are so smart. Because you have to figure out where this animated character is going to go. It was great to be a part of. So, I’m excited to see how it turns out because, obviously, I act a lot. with a tennis ball. There’s a tennis ball for the eye line and it moves. So, yeah, I think I don’t know. I don’t know how much more I can say about that, but I kept babbling on for a while .”
Hopefully the film will eventually be released, but with WB rejecting offers from other studios to purchase the film, who knows if that will ever happen. They could just delete the movie from the servers.
Regardless of what happens to this film, on behalf of the cast and crew, I just wanted to express how grateful we are for all the love, support and words of encouragement we’ve received. #ReleaseCoyoteVsACME
