In the ever-evolving landscape of cinema, 2023 has proven to be a year full of great stories and fantastic cinematic achievements. From epic adventures set in distant galaxies to intimate character-driven dramas, the big screen was a tapestry of emotions and experiences.
As we move into 2023, I wanted to share my list of my top 10 favorite movies of 2023 and the cinematic gems that have left a mark on my heart and mind. Films I will watch again for years to come.
Whether you’re a fan of thrilling sci-fi, heartwarming dramas, pulse-pounding action, or dark horror, there’s something on this list for every movie buff. My lists always seem to include a variety of genres.
Without further ado, here are my ten favorite movies of 2023. Read the list and let me know what some of your favorite movies were last year!
Godzilla minus one
Godzilla minus one it’s the best Godzilla movie ever made. It told a great story, had strong character development, and Godzilla was absolutely terrifying. The movie actually treated the long-running franchise with respect and I hope that Legendary Pictures and the filmmakers they hire to make their movies learn how to make a real Godzilla movie instead of the crap they keep pumping out for the franchise. Hollywood could learn something from Godzilla minus onebut they won’t.
The film is set in Japan 1945-1947. “After the war, Japan was reduced to nothing. Godzilla appears and throws the country into a negative state. Against the most desperate situation in the history of Japan, how – and with whom – will Japan resist?”
The boys on the boat
Hollywood doesn’t make these types of movies anymore, so the thing is George Clooney being able to make and distribute this film in theaters is truly incredible. I love this type of movie! Inspirational stories of underdog sports, and this is an amazing movie and I have to say it’s my favorite movie of the year. This is a near-perfect film and is one of those types of films that I will find myself revisiting for years to come. It’s a shame that more people don’t go out and watch it.
The film is based on the New York Times bestselling nonfiction novel written by Daniel James Brown. The film is about “the 1936 University of Washington rowing team that competed for gold at the Berlin Summer Olympics. This inspiring true story follows a group of underdogs in the midst of the Great Depression as they are thrust into the spotlight and face elite rivals from around the world.
John Wick: Chapter 4
Director David Leitch and actor Keanu Reeves done it again! They worked hard to bring us another badass John Wick action movie! These films just keep getting better and better and this is, in my opinion, the best of the series. The way the story unfolded, the character arcs, and the crazy action reached all levels of awesomeness. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the next movie!
In the film, With the bounty on his head ever-increasing, legendary hitman John Wick takes his fight against the High Table global as he seeks out the most powerful players in the underworld, from New York to Paris, Japan to Berlin.
The residues
Paolo Giamatti AND Noah Baumbach’S The residues it was a wonderfully charming, heartfelt, entertaining and entertaining film! The film is a fantastic character study with some of the best performances of the year. I would love to see Giamatti and his young co-star Domenico Sessa they are nominated for their work on the film. The story and screenplay were incredibly strong and I enjoyed the overall tone of the film.
The story follows “a gruff teacher (Giamatti) at a New England elementary school who is forced to stay on campus over Christmas break to babysit a handful of students who have nowhere to go. Eventually, he forms an unlikely bond with one of them – a disturbed and intelligent troublemaker – and with the school’s head cook, who has just lost a son in Vietnam.
Oppenheimer
Christopher Nolan brought to life the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer and his journey to create the atomic bomb in an incredible and terrifying way. Oppenheimer is an incredible historical drama and the message he conveyed was powerful. I loved this movie and the performances of all the actors in it, but Cilian Murphy he gave the performance of his career in this film.
In the film During World War II, Lieutenant General Leslie Groves Jr. appoints physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer to work on the top-secret Manhattan Project. Oppenheimer and a team of scientists spend years developing and designing the atomic bomb. Their work came to fruition on July 16, 1945, when they witnessed the world’s first nuclear explosion, changing the course of history forever.
Air
This amazing film tells the intriguing story of Nike’s journey to convince basketball legend Michael Jordan to sign a groundbreaking deal with them, which revolutionized the world of sports and culture. The film was directed by Ben Affleckwho also stars alongside Matt Damon, it’s a really fun movie. This was another inspiring underdog story that has an undeniable attainability. It’s one of the best photos of the year!
The film follows the “career-defining gamble of an unconventional team with everything on the line, the uncompromising vision of a mother who knows the value of her son’s immense talent, and the basketball phenomenon that would become the greatest of them all.” times”.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, part one
Tom Cruise delivered yet another great and exciting entry into the long run Mission Impossible franchising. He and the director Christopher McQuarrie they always try to take things to the next level with this franchise. Not only with the story but also with the stunts performed by Cruise. That guy won’t stop putting his life on the line to entertain audiences, and this movie was one of the most fun times I had at the movies this year!
In the film, Ethan Hunt and the IMF team must track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity if it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, a deadly race around the globe begins. Faced with a mysterious and omnipotent enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than the mission, not even the lives of those he cares about most.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
The creativity behind the Spider-Verse the animated franchise has produced another incredibly fun and entertaining film! I wasn’t sure if they would make it to the bar set in the first film, but they did while continuing to tell the story of Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen. As superhero films struggle to tell good quality stories, Through the Spider-Verse delivered the goods and fans loved it.
In the film, after reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s friendly, full-time neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting his very existence. However, when the heroes clash over how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders. He will soon have to redefine what it means to be a hero in order to save the people he loves most.
Speak with me
I always have to include a horror film on my list and this year that film will be it Speak with me. This was a very dark horror thriller that told a very unique story, something we had never seen done before and it was done incredibly well. I was very impressed with the writing and direction and can’t wait to see what the director who made it does next.
In the film, when a group of friends discover how to summon spirits with an embalmed hand, they become addicted to the new high-stakes, thrill-seeking board game, until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
James Gunn finally got to close out his Guardians trilogy at Marvel Studios, and the third film in the series took audiences on a wild and emotional journey! It was the perfect ending to the story Gunn wanted to tell with these characters and was the best Marvel Studios film of the year. It was also the most successful at the box office. After Gunn made such a good movie, good luck to Marvel completing it with their future endeavors.
In the film, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, Peter Quill must rally his team to defend the universe and protect one of their own. If the mission is not completely successful, it could lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.
