The James Bond producer talks about the future of the franchise and “reinventing” the character

Daniel Craig had a nice run like James Bond In the 007 spy franchise, but now that his time as the character has come to an end, fans have been wondering… what’s next? What would the future of James Bond be like without Craig or the director? Sam Mendes?

During a recent interview with The Guardian, producer of the franchise Barbara Broccoli just gave fans an update on how things are going, and they’ve barely scratched the surface of the next iteration of Bond, Broccoli said there’s “a big way to go” and says the iconic character needs to be ” reinvented for the next chapter.” She explained:

“I go back to GoldenEye when everyone said ‘the cold war is over, the wall is over, Bond is dead, there’s no need for Bond, the whole world is at peace and now there are no more bad guys’ – and boy, do I I was wrong!

“Daniel gave us a chance to delve into the emotional life of the character… and the world was ready for that too. I think these films reflect the moment they’re in, and there’s a great, great way forward for reinventing it for the next chapter and we haven’t even started with that.”

As for casting Bond, that’s something they’re not even close to doing yet. There have been unconfirmed reports on the matter Christopher Nolan will develop the next two chapters of the franchise.

EON and Amazon are said to be “pushing for Nolan and he is OK in principle unless his need for creative freedom is met. However, there are some critical points to resolve in terms of tone that could derail things.

According to rumors, EON is looking to do a complete reboot of the franchise for the modern era and they want Nolan to adapt some of the classics Ian Fleming novels, “in period settings, which are close to the source material”. The ultimate goal is for Nolan to make three Bond films and have him on board as an executive producer on the franchise moving forward.

Many fans are hoping that these rumors are true, but only time will tell, and it looks like it’ll be a while before we actually get concrete answers about what’s going on with the franchise.
