Director Eli Roth recently talked about his upcoming film adaptation of Borderlands and previews what we can expect from it. One of the things he is keen to say is that he will maintain the “spirit” of the original games.
While speaking with ComingSoon, Roth was asked about the type of humor we would see in the film and whether it would be as reference-heavy as the original games. So he talked about this and how the creator of the game, Randy Pitchfordhe was there to entertain his ideas:
“They’re bananas. I really wanted to keep the spirit of the film in the spirit of the games. Randy Pitchford, the creator, was there with me every step of the way. If I had my idea for a joke that wasn’t part of Borderlands canon, he’d be like, “Oh, that’s cool.” Claptrap would absolutely do that.” For all the character stuff I wanted them to do, I was like, ‘Okay, would Lilith do something like that?’ Or, ‘Is this a Tiny Tina move?’ He says, ‘That’s cool.’ We should do that in the game. That’s really, really cool.” So yes, the movie is fun. It’s wild. It was a huge, huge undertaking, especially during Covid. People are going to have to wait a little longer for that, but I’m really, really excited about it.”
I hope this movie turns out to be really great! We’ll see how it turns out, though. The film had undergone two weeks of filming which was not directed by Roth. The study ended up engaging Dead Pool director Tim Miller to replace Roth for filming because Roth was starting work on his Thanksgiving horror film.
