The eighth and final episode of Star Wars: Ahsoka Season 1, “The Jedi, the Witch and the Warlord,” delivered a truly fantastic finale! I was so happy as I watched the story unfold for this final chapter, and it pretty much delivered everything I hoped for, I was completely satisfied. It was easily the best episode of the season.
I know I previously complained about Ezra (Eman Esfandi) being underused in the previous episode, he was upset that he didn’t get his lightsaber back and didn’t see any lightsaber fighting scenes. Well, those delusions were quickly set apart when we see Ezra build a new lightsaber with the help of the droid Professor Huyang. The lightsaber is made of one piece that Huyang gave to Ezra and the other piece belonged to Kanan. With that, Ezra finishes his lightsaber and ignites his new blue blade.
We also saw Ezra get into some real action in the episode and that’s exactly the kind of thing I wanted to see! Things got even more awesome when Ezra, Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) and Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) found themselves fighting a horde of undead zombie Stormtroopers! I already thought the Night Troopers were undead at the beginning of the season, but in this episode, after the three heroes killed several Night Troopers, the Nightsisters resurrected them from the dead and they came complete with glowing green eyes ! I’ve always wanted to see Zombie Stormtroopers in live-action Star Wars project e Dave Filoni he gave it to us Ahsoka.
The zombie Night Troopers prove to be a challenge to deal with and as they battle them, Ahsoka finds herself in a rematch with Morgan Elsbeth, but Morgan has undergone a transformation. At the beginning of the episode, the Great Mothers Nightsisters thank Morgan Elsbeth for coming and offering the Gift of Shadows. Morgan agrees to abandon his old life and commit to them. They proceed to brand Morgan’s face before summoning a whirlwind of green magic.
As the green fire dies, the Blade of Talzin is revealed, which is a nice callback to Mother Talzin, who led the Nightsisters in The Clone Wars. They give Morgan the blade, which glows with emerald flames. It was a really cool view.
The lightsaber battle between Ahsoka and Morgan was one of the best in the series. There was never any doubt that Ahsoka wouldn’t beat her, but it was truly an intense battle with great fight choreography. The climactic moment of the fight sees Ahsoka fight Morgan alongside several Night Troopers, but when Sabine steps in to help, Ahsoka manages to take down Morgan, but not before one of her two lightsabers is cut in half.
While all this is happening, Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) is as beautiful as a cucumber. He doesn’t seem to have a care in the world and is confident that he will win and walk away. Thrawn and the Great Mother flee to the Eye of Zion, but Ahsoka and Sabine pursue the Eye of Zion. As they do so, Thrawn calls Ahsoka’s ship and mentions that he knew her master Anakin and briefly talks about Ankin’s teachings for his victory. With a final “Long live the Empire”, he jumps into hyperspace, damaging Ahsoka’s spaceship.
During the course of the battle, Ezra ended up aboard the Eye of Zion. But he donned Night Trooper gear and stole an Imperial shuttle after the Eye of Zion found itself approaching the planet of Dathomir. Ezra takes the shuttle and reunites with Hera Syndulla and Chopper, a fantastic and emotional moment.
The end of the episode features Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno) reuniting with the bandits he fought earlier as he ignites his lightsaber. Then there’s Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson), which is found on one of the statues on the planet. The statue is the Father, one of the Gods of Mortis, representing Balance in the Force. To the right of the statue is the figure of the Brother, who is the personification of the dark side. To the left appear to be the shattered remains of the Sister, who is the personification of the light side.
Sabine, Ahsoka, and Huyang return to Noti, and Ahsoka praises Sabine for bringing Ezra home. Ahsoka says they are where they need to be and that it’s time to move on.
There’s a moment where Sabine looks into the distance and hears something but ignores it. Ahsoka then looks out and smirks as the show ends with Anakin’s expression (Hayden Christensen) Force ghost watching his old padawan.
I had a great time watching this show and can’t wait to see the story continue in season 2! I hate having to wait so long for this to happen, but one day it will happen! What did you think of the season finale of Ahsoka? Is there anything that struck you? What were some of your favorite parts?
