The latest film of Friday 13th the horror franchise was released in 2009. It’s been almost 15 years since we last saw a movie featuring Jason Voorhees embarking on a killing spree. Well, Blumhouse would love the opportunity to play in the Friday 13th sandpit.
I guess this isn’t really surprising given that they’ve already played with Halloween franchise, and now they have The exorcist trilogy in progress. The first of those Exorcist movies, The Exorcist: Believerwill be released this month.
During an interview with Inverse prior to the film’s release, Blumhouse producer Ryan Turek spoke about wanting to go to Crystal Lake, saying:
“Jason (Blum) and I definitely agree that Friday the 13th is the thing we’d like to get our hands on. I really want to get back to basics. You don’t need too many ingredients for a Friday the 13th movie. You need summer camp, you need campers, and you need Jason Vorhees in a mask.
He continued saying:
“Listen, I’ve openly stated that Halloween is the definitive slasher movie for me. It’s my favorite slasher movie of all time. But Friday the 13th as a franchise is one I bow to. I love everything about it. And if we could live in both worlds, like we do with Halloween, then being able to live in Crystal Lake for a while would be really amazing.”
There have been some rights issues with Friday 13th franchise, but those have been resolved. I have no doubt that one day we will see a new film in the series, I just don’t know who will. But if Blumhouse really wants it, I’m sure they will make every effort to get it. Then they will have it David Gordon Green direct a trilogy because that’s what they do.
Jason Blum mentioned previously Friday 13th is his favorite horror movie of all time:
“The scariest movie for me was Friday the 13th. Although I was never as scared as the first time I saw the movie, but the scariest movie I ever saw was Friday the 13th. I was too young when I saw it and it destroyed me. So it’s a movie that we should all watch in October. And then, of course, they’re also less associated with Halloween, but I think in terms of the best scary movie director, I think it’s Hitchcock . And I think you’d do pretty well watching Psycho on Halloween, too.”
There’s a Friday the 13th TV series planned with the original star Adriana King involved, but this will not prevent the production of a film.
