Lucasfilm director Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Gareth Edwardsaddressed the numerous reports regarding the film’s extensive reshoots overseen by Tony Gilroy (Andor). There were reports that Gilroy replaced Edwards as director for those shoots, but according to Edwards, “there’s so much imprecision” surrounding those reports.
On a recent episode of KCRW’s The Business podcast, Edwards explained:
“The things that are out there on the internet about what happened in that movie – there are so many inaccuracies about the whole thing. Tony [Gilroy] he came in and definitely did a great job. No doubt about it. But we all worked together until the last minute of that film.”
Edwards went on to say that he was fully involved in the five weeks of filming Rogue One and he also said that that final badass scene with Darth Vader was directed by him. He said:
“The last thing we filmed during filming was Darth Vader’s hallway scene. I did all those things.
Well, that’s all cleared up now, which is nice. Edwards has already spoken about Rogue One and his experience making the film, and he said, “Look, the only thing I can say is that I was incredibly lucky. I was able to make a Star Wars movie. I won the lottery, in that sense. The idea of someone as privileged as me somehow implying that it was anything other than the amazing experience that it was to some extent — like, I have no empathy for that person, and I don’t want to be that person either. “
Edwards’ most recent film project is The creator, which is currently in theaters. It’s a great sci-fi movie that you need to watch if you haven’t already!
